Carrying a Community on Your Shoulders

Dec 28, 2025

You ever feel like the moment you walk into a room, you’re not just you anymore, you’re suddenly representing an entire community? When you’re one of the few minority faces in your industry, every move feels amplified. Every decision feels like it carries extra weight. It’s like you’re constantly aware that one public mistake might close doors for someone who looks like you coming right behind.

That pressure is real. And honestly? It’s exhausting. It makes you feel like you always have to be perfect, always polished, always “on.” But here’s what I’ve had to remind myself over and over: failure is part of entrepreneurship for everyone. Not just us. Everyone. Pretending otherwise only makes the journey heavier.

The truth is, owning our mistakes, and being open about what we learned, does more good than pretending we never slip. When we show the human side of building, we normalize the ups and the downs. We break the illusion that successful founders somehow glide through without struggle. And for the next generation watching us, that honesty might be the difference between them giving up early or pushing forward.

Representation is a responsibility, yes; but it shouldn’t be a cage. The best way to represent your community isn’t by being flawless. It’s by being real. By showing the wins, the setbacks, the lessons, and the resilience. That kind of transparency doesn’t just inspire, it gives people permission to try, fail, grow, and keep going.

Because at the end of the day, the story that moves people isn’t perfection; it’s possibility.
